Sandon & Co Savile Row Bespoke Black Morning Coat 42”R
An absolutely beautiful Savile Row Bespoke morning coat, made by Sandon & Co at No.12 in 1953. This is a wonderful example of a piece of 1950's Savile Row tailoring that can still be worn and cherished today.
The coat is unique for its age, as often morning coats from this era had substantial padding and quilting in the body down the chest and in the modern this is just too hot to wear. This coat does not has padding, it has standard lining so it makes it very wearable for weddings/Royal Ascot.
The coat is cut from a plain black wool cloth of medium weight. It has a beautiful wide peak lapel with left side buttonhole and a lovely fabric turn back on the under collar showing its been handmade. It has a centre button and four button cuffs with functional buttons. The back is elegant with a deep centre vent and two buttons as traditional with a morning coat. It has some lovely roping to the shoulder, not too sever but enough to show it's handmade bespoke.
The coat measures as a 42"R with further measurements below:
Pit2pit- 22.25"
Waist 6" below pit- 21.25"
Sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff- 24.5"
Back from neck seam to hem- 42"
The condition is excellent, especially for its age. It has a mark on the back of the collar that we think would come out with a dry clean. The hanging loop has also come off on one side and the sleeve lining is coming undone a little in both armholes. Other than this it is immaculate and just shows some signs of light wear over the years.
